AM25: From Vision to Action: Integrated Planning and Finance for Student-Centered Transformation

In an era of increasing complexity in higher education, institutions committed to student success must leverage financial strategies to build sustainable, scalable capacity for improved student outcomes. This interactive session will introduce strategies for embedding student-centered strategies into institutional planning processes. Through real-world case studies and practical exercises, you will learn how to build integrated plans that connect strategic priorities, financial practices, and student success efforts.

Learning Objectives

  • Explain how integrated planning connects institutional strategy, finance, and operations to advance student success. 
  • Apply data-informed decision-making strategies to align financial resources with measurable improvements in student outcomes.  
  •  Utilize tools and resources to build institutional capacity and embed student-centered strategies in the budgeting, resource allocation, and long-term financial planning. 

CPE Available: 1.5 Credits in Specialized Knowledge

Each individual must register and attend separately to earn credit.

Steps to Earn CPE Credit

You can only earn credit for attending the session live. CPE credit cannot be earned for watching the recordings.

To earn CPE credit, you will complete the following tasks under the Content tab, after the session has ended:

  1. Pass the CPE codeword quiz. Write down the codewords posted in the Zoom chat at random times throughout the session and complete the quiz at the end of the session. 
  2. Submit the CPE check-out code displayed at the end of the session. 
  3. Download your CPE certificate. 

You have until 5 pm Eastern Time on Wednesday, July 30, to complete these three steps or report technology issues with this site to online@nacubo.org.

Mike Moss, CAE

President

Society for College and University Planning

Mike Moss, CAE, is the president of the Ann Arbor based Society for College and University Planning (SCUP). In collaboration with the Board of Directors, he is responsible for providing leadership and vision for the organization and guiding the development and implementation of the strategic plan, programs, policies, and practices of the society. SCUP develops individual and organizational planning capacities to strengthen and transform institutions of higher education. Integrated planning is a sustainable approach to planning that builds relationships, aligns the organization, and emphasizes preparedness for change. Integrated planning engages all sectors of the academy - academic affairs, student affairs, business and finance, campus planning, IT, communications, and development. It involves all stakeholders - faculty, students, staff, alumni, and external partners. Prior to SCUP, Mike served as chief operating officer for the International Facility Management Association and senior director of operations and education at NACE International. Mike's past positions have provided him with a broad range of experience, from organizational design and strategic planning through certification management and member relations.

Terri Dautcher

Terri Dautcher has 20+ years of leadership experience in for-profit and non-profit service sector organizations, followed by 8 years as a full-time faculty member at Plymouth State University in New Hampshire.

For the past 4 years she has worked as a practice consultant to colleges and universities. Terri has supported and coached leadership teams across a wide range of operational and structural transformations. She is a systems thinker who offers practical approaches to navigating the complexities of people and organizational processes. Terri has extensive experience designing and delivering programs in organizational change management, diversity, equity and inclusion, student recruitment and retention, and implementation of margin driven strategic and operational plans.

At Plymouth State, Terri was a faculty leader, chairing a range of faculty governance committees and serving as Faculty Speaker. Within the College of Business, where she taught courses in marketing and entrepreneurship, Terri played a material role in the development of new majors and the redesign and adoption of equity-driven advising models.

Terri Dautcher has a BA from Dickinson College and an MBA from Temple University. She has also completed extensive graduate course work in organizational dynamics, finance, and risk management.

Kelli S. Rainey

Senior Director, Grants Management

Kelli S. Rainey, Ed.D., serves as the senior director for grants management at NACUBO.  In her current role, she is leading a multi-foundation, multi-campus project to develop frameworks, tools, and models that will change how higher education institutions strategically and sustainably finance equitable student outcomes. With more than two decades in higher education, Rainey has an extensive background in institutional effectiveness, data analytics, and student development. Most recently, she provided strategic leadership as a senior-level university administrator and focused on strategies and initiatives to support student retention and completion, service delivery, and organizational effectiveness. Rainey holds a doctorate in higher education and organizational change and a graduate certificate in institutional research.
